Cookies Policy
This policy explains how EnGarde Games uses cookies and similar local-storage technologies on the EnGarde web experience — including the Chronicle, the Card Forge, and the related companion tools — and the choices available to you under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).
01 What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by the websites you visit. We also use comparable browser-storage technologies, such as localStorage, sessionStorage, and IndexedDB. Throughout this policy the word cookie covers all of them.
Cookies are not programs and they cannot read or alter other files on your device. They store small key/value pairs that the site reads back on later visits — for example, to remember your language, an in-progress deck, or your cookie preferences.
02 How EnGarde uses them
We use cookies to:
- Keep the site working — session, security, page state.
- Remember your language and accessibility settings.
- Save your in-progress card decks so a refresh doesn't lose your work.
- Remember the answer you gave to the cookie banner so we don't ask again.
- Measure — anonymously and in aggregate — which pages and features are used.
- If you opt in, support occasional product announcements.
03 Categories
Necessary Always on
Required for the site to function. Cannot be switched off in our systems. Includes session and security cookies, the cookie-consent record itself, and basic preferences such as language.
Functional Optional
Enhanced features such as remembered card decks, theme, and the Tweaks panel. If disabled, your work will not persist between sessions.
Analytics Optional
Anonymised, aggregated usage statistics so we know which chapters and tools are loved or ignored. We do not build advertising profiles from this data.
Marketing Optional
Reserved for occasional product announcements (expansions, new releases). None are active by default; they only run if you opt in and a campaign is live.
04 Cookies & local storage we set
The following keys are written to your device by EnGarde itself (first‑party). We currently set no third‑party tracking cookies by default.
| Key | Category | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| engarde.cookies.consent.v1 | Necessary | Records the cookie choices you made in the banner. | 12 months |
| engarde.age13.consent.v1 | Necessary | Records that you affirmed you are 13 years or older. | 12 months |
| engarde:token | Necessary | Your signed-in session token. Removed on logout. | Until logout |
| engarde:lang | Functional | Remembers your interface language preference. | 12 months |
| engarde:conflicts | Functional | Persists the daily "conflicts" count so it doesn't change on every refresh. | 24 hours |
| engarde:quests | Functional | Stores your recent quest notifications so they survive a refresh. | 12 months |
| engarde:live-event:dismissed | Functional | Honours your dismissal of the live-event widget for the current session. | Session |
| engarde.intro.seen.v1 | Functional | Remembers that you have seen the Chronicle intro. | 12 months |
| engarde.cardforge.v1 | Functional | Stores the current in-progress deck and card so a refresh doesn't lose your work. | Until cleared |
| engarde.analytics.* | Analytics | Anonymised page views and feature usage; only set when analytics is enabled. | 12 months |
This list is updated whenever we add or remove cookies. The effective date above reflects the most recent revision.
05 Your current preferences
